The Bedroom - Vincent Van Gogh - 1889
Van Gogh produced three versions of this work, it depicts his bedroom in “Yellow House” in Arles, France. In a letter to his brother Theo, he described having painted “the walls pale lilac, the floor in a broken and faded red, the chairs and the bed chrome yellow, the pillows and the sheet very pale lemon green, the bedspread blood-red, the dressing table orange, the washbasin blue, the window green.” Its bold colours and brushwork create a wonderful vibrancy while the dramatic receding lines suggest a nervous energy.
It is complimented by a late 19th / early 20th century reeded oak frame with gold leaf slip.
